The video Four More Years was a politically oriented video that touched not only on the Republican side of the Presidential election but also on the side where people were against having Nixon as president. The filming technique was interesting to me. I noticed that when people were being interviewed the camera man would scan the person’s entire body, and then zooming in on the face. I think that this technique was used to show the person as a whole, eliminating the idea that there is just a floating head. This video was also mainly concentrated on young voters and the part they played in the campaign for Nixon. There were two main emotions that I picked up on in the video. One was that of positive energy, having fun, and excitement, while the other was that of anger, dislike, and hatred. By including this two very different emotions it brings to light the truth behind the campaign. If there was only one emotion the truth behind the feelings towards the campaign would have been purposely hidden.
I had a hard time deciding if the video was for a particular side of the campaign or if it was just directed at the general public. After thinking about the video more, I think that it was directed at the general public, different political groups and more specifically people that were either for or against the Nixon campaign. This video demonstrated the frustration of the American people towards the Vietnam War and the Nixon campaign and also the political conflicts involved in the campaign. At the end of the film a harsh voice yelling “Four More Years” is repeated over and over. I think this repetition was used to emphasize the may point of the video, to document and show the process of the campaign and collect a variety of different peoples thoughts and ideas about the campaign. To really capture the voice of the people, instead of the voice of those who can always be heard.
