Acconci & Dillon's "Pryings"

The first thing that came to my mind while watching this video was a person fighting addiction. The way that Kathy Dillon is fighting the forced pryings of Vito Acconci reminds me of a way that an addict fights against his/her addiction when trying to quit or the way that he/she fights against friends and family during an intervention. Her form of resistance is the most interesting to me. While her body seems to stay mostly limp, she makes instinctive, almost subconscious, maneuvers to avoid Acconci's powerful grasp. She folds over and backs up, she lets her head fall back and forward, eventually even moving her hands to limply cover her face. It was interesting that she never used her arms to pry his fingers off her face or to physically push him away, he is always the one in control. Acconci is physically supporting Dillon while simultaneously prying her eyelids open, and she does little to aid his attempts.
While Acconci is often able to get Dillon's head up and facing the camera, he seems to have the most trouble dealing with her mass of hair covering her face. Dillon's thick dark hair creates a veil over her eyes, another level of built in protection keeping her from facing what Acconci is trying so desperately to make her see. Not only does her hair create a veil over her forced face, but it also contrasts greatly with the pale white of Dillon's face and Acconci's hands. Her dark hair hides her pale innocence, while the white of Acconci's hands attempt to penetrate the dark outer layer, pushing and forcing it aside before being able to get to Dillon's eyes. Dillon's hair almost acts as another defense in this video.
The most devastating thing about this video to me is the pained expression on Dillon's face. When Acconci pulls her hair away from her face, it reveals the pain and torture that she is feeling as her body is being pulled around and her face is being contorted and pulled harshly by a brutal man. The look on her face could be read as horror, pain or even fear. The reason behind her fight and the event that will occur should she open her eyes remain a mystery.
