Nauman Response

Bruce Nauman's video "Stamping in the Studio" was an interesting take on following someone around the room. As the camera from above, like Big Brother in a sense, watched and filmed Nauman the viewer began to experince a different outlook on how a room or a person can be filmed. As the viewer watches Nauman one begins to understand that he is not interacting with the audience but interacting with himself in this mind numbing repetitive movement that he is performing. His feet create a beat and pattern that he gets lost in that seem to never end.
After a certain amount of time the intention of the video seems to become lost. Like him, we are lost in this beat and following this pattern that is predictable in a way, but yet at the same time we can only focus on whats is about to happen next. In this regularity of a motion comes irregularity because it is not something we see everyday. Like Nauman, these thoughts and patterns are never ending even after the tape seems to cut him off, not the other way around. He moves on even when no one is watching.
