Response: Theme Song

Vito Acconci’s Theme Song creates an intense relationship between Vito and the viewer. The atmosphere that Vito creates is very creepy in many ways because of the intimacy by which Vito acts with the camera. He is luring the viewer to come to him by saying he is lonely and that he doesn’t care what the viewer looks like he just wants a body next to him. He tries to entice the viewer through saying nobody will know and that the viewer to allow his/herself to succumb to the temptation. Then he switches his tone to one of understanding that he may be moving to fast. It seems as though his thoughts and discussion are driven by the lyrics of the various songs. His approach to seduction or persuasion is altered with the change of each song. During one song he uses mental persuasion talking about emotions, respecting, and caring for the viewer, while in the next he uses physical seduction saying he wants to wrap his body around the viewer and that his body is ready to spring on the viewer. It is as if he has two personalities, one in which his body yearns for physical contact and one that wants an emotion relationship. Overall, the video is entirely creepy and scary but it makes you think what his purpose is beyond seduction. Vito’s pleas in many ways are pleas for help as he seems disturbed and very much alone. He seems to be prying at the viewer to make he/she realizes that he/she is also alone and may be longing for some by their side.
